Happy June everyone! Can you believe that it is the final month of school? It seems like yesterday that Junior Infants came into the classroom for their first day of school and now they are nearly ready to move to Senior Infants. It’s easy to forget how much our Junior Infant pupils have learned, progressed and developed over the course of their first year of school. They really have been such a fun, kind and hardworking class.
The theme for the month of June is of course summer and holidays. The class will be learning all about the changes which occur in summer and will be discussing and describing the different activities we do in summer and the places we might visit during the summer holidays. We will also be learning some very important water safety rules so that we all know how to stay safe during the summer holidays and enjoy water and all the fun it can bring. Remember to never bring inflatables to the beach, always swim between the red and yellow flags, swim parallel to the shore and always swim with a buddy. To learn even more water safety rules, ask any member of Junior Infants and they will be delighted to teach you how to stay safe around water. Junior Infants will also be creating summery pieces of art and will be having an exciting Teddy Bear’s Picnic in the school garden. On this day, they will be allowed to bring in their favourite teddy and we will eat our lunch together in the garden. There are many more fun activities planned for June so it is sure to be a very fun end to the school year.
June also means that it is nearly time for our exciting school tour to Airfield Estate in Dundrum on Tuesday 25th. We will be preparing and talking about the trip and the fun activities we will be taking part in before the day of the trip. An email outlining the tour specifics and items which each pupil should bring will be sent before the trip.
We will also have our annual, whole school Sport’s Day on Friday 14th of June. All are welcome to come along and cheer on our house teams. There is always a great atmosphere and sense of community on the day. The races will begin from around 12.30pm. Please ensure that you stay behind the rope/cones. While we have been preparing the class for their races, you can also use ‘Move on Monday’ homework, throughout June, as an opportunity to practise running and the egg and spoon race.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the support you have given throughout the year and we wish you a relaxing, safe and most enjoyable summer.
