The festive season has officially begun and it is safe to say that the levels of excitement in Junior Infants are rather high. December is such a fun and magical time of year and school is no exception. There are so many exciting and wonderful activities planned for the class throughout the month.
Firstly, our theme for the month has changed and you’ve guessed it….it’s CHRISTMAS. The Junior Infant doctor’s surgery has closed and Santa’s workshop is now officially open. The elves will be working very hard to organise, make, prepare and wrap all of the presents and the orders are sure to back up quickly! Santa and Mrs. Claus will be overseeing the operations and the reindeer will soon begin preparations for their long journey on the 24th of December. The pupils will also be honing their sorting skills and deciding which children will make it onto the ‘Nice List’ and they are sure to check the list twice! Junior Infants will also be learning how to write Christmas cards, present tags and letters and how to address envelopes and will also develop their present wrapping skills so they can help out at home this Christmas. Pupils will be taking home lots of pieces of Christmas art over the course of the month so make sure to leave some room on the tree and the mantelpiece.
Junior Infants will be learning all about the true meaning of Christmas and will be doing lots of work based on the Nativity story and the special journey which Mary and Joseph took. The Junior Christmas concert will be held at 8.40 am in the Large Hall in the school on Wednesday 19th so make sure you pencil it into your diary now as it is sure to be an amazing show. All are welcome to come along and hear the story of the birth of Jesus through entertaining songs and short narrations.
What better way to get into the festive mood than through the medium of stories and here in Junior Infants we will be reading lots of lovely Christmas stories in class. Some of the books we will be reading include: ‘The Magic of Christmas’ by Christine Leeson and Gaby Hansen, ‘The Snowman’ By Raymond Briggs and of course the Nativity Story.
Junior Infants would like to wish everyone a wonderful month and hope that everyone enjoys the fun, the traditions, the stories, the food and the true meaning of Christmas! Nollaig Shona Daoibh!
