We are thrilled to share that golf has made its debut at St. Andrew’s! Thanks to our successful application to the GUI’s Unleash Your Drive initiative, our pupils had the unique opportunity to experience this fantastic sport right here at school.
This initiative is all about making golf accessible to young people across communities, while also promoting the positive mental benefits the game offers. Through golf, children learn valuable skills such as focus, self-reflection, and goal setting—thinking about what went well, and how they might improve next time.
All pupils from 3rd to 6th Class enjoyed a taster session with Aaron Cashin from the Golfing Union of Ireland. Teachers Ms. Goulden and Ms. Mulligan also received online training to help support golf activities in the school going forward.
Our 4th Class were especially lucky to receive six full sessions of golf with Aaron. These sessions included fun chipping and putting games in the GP Hall, culminating in an exciting mini golf course set up on our fantastic back field, where students got to put their new skills into practice.
As part of the initiative, we also received a Golf Kit Bag worth €850, containing specialised equipment including clubs, flags, discs, mats and more—ensuring that golf can remain a part of our PE programme for years to come.
To top it all off, eight students from 5th and 6th Class will be representing St. Andrew’s at the Delgany Schools Golf Cup on Monday, 12th May. Best of luck and enjoy the day to Jasmine, Jessica, Anna, Alannah, Danny, Callum, Zach, and Marcus
This has been a truly spectacular initiative, and we are so grateful to be a part of it. Here's to many more golf-filled days at St. Andrew’s!
